Meet the Team: Richard Achieves Master Technician Status
At Volvo Cars Poole, we take pride in the skill, dedication, and continuous learning of our team. This month, we’re delighted to celebrate Richard, who has officially achieved the title of Master Technician following a rigorous 18-month training and assessment journey.
The Path to Master Technician
Richard’s assessment was no small task. Spanning seven modules, it tested everything from advanced diagnostics to customer communication. On the big day, he faced challenges such as:
- Diagnostic exercises including a full report
- Electrical fault tracing and component testing
- Petrol engine and mild hybrid/high voltage diagnostics
- Connectivity and iCup customer settings
- Customer liaison exercises
- Video-based assessments and IT resource use
“It was a very intensive day,” Richard recalls. “They’re not just checking if you can fix the fault, they’re watching your processes, your method, and even how you communicate with customers. It’s about doing things the Volvo way.”
Despite the pressure of time limits and assessors observing every step, Richard successfully passed all modules, proving his ability not only to solve problems but to do so with clarity, precision, and consistency.
Years of Expertise, A New Chapter with Volvo
While this certification is new, Richard is no stranger to the role of Master Technician. Over his career, he’s held senior technical titles across multiple brands. For him, this milestone with Volvo is about personal achievement and professional pride.
“I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. I set a goal when I joined Volvo Cars Poole, to become a Master Technician here. It’s about personal satisfaction and knowing I can deliver at the highest level.”
The Value for Our Customers
For Richard, the real reward is how this qualification enhances the service experience for Volvo Cars Poole customers.
“I always prefer to speak directly with customers before starting work. It’s about asking the right questions and managing expectations. Sometimes a fault isn’t present at the time, so communication is key. This qualification just strengthens my ability to get to the root of issues quickly and effectively.”
Supported by the Team
Richard is quick to credit the support he’s received along the way. “Leanne, the Aftersales Manager, has been fantastic in giving me the opportunity, and Aaron, the Workshop Controller too. There was never a ‘we’re too busy’, only encouragement to keep going. The training team at Volvo have also been brilliant, really supportive and approachable.”
What’s Next?
Although this marks the completion of a huge milestone, Richard isn’t slowing down. His next goal is to begin training with Polestar. “For now, I’ll keep up with Volvo’s ongoing training and updates, but my next big step will be starting Polestar training later this year. It’s a new challenge I’m excited to take on.”
Congratulations to Richard on this incredible achievement! His dedication, skill, and customer-first approach make him an invaluable part of the Volvo Cars Poole team.
