Driving Sustainability: Meyrick Park’s General Manager on Life with the Volvo EX30
Volvo Cars Poole has teamed up with one of Bournemouth’s most established leisure destinations, The Club at Meyrick Park, to celebrate a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community. As part of the collaboration, we sat down with Kate Beecham, General Manager at Meyrick Park, to discuss her experience both as a Volvo EX30 driver and as the head of one of the South Coast’s most dynamic lifestyle venues.
Kate has been with the company for six years, managing the Meyrick Park site for the past four. Overseeing a golf course, hotel, health club, and spa, she leads a large team focused on both member experience and operational success. “We’re one of 18 clubs across the UK, the largest country club group in the country,” Kate explained. “It’s about caring for our members, caring for our team, and being profitable for the business.”
And when it comes to choosing her own car, Kate’s values align perfectly with Volvo’s. A long-time Volvo enthusiast, she currently drives the Volvo EX30, her first fully electric model and she couldn’t be happier. “I’ve had Volvo cars in the past, going back 30 years,” she said. “When I was looking for an electric car, I loved the look, design, and comfort of the Volvo EX30. That’s what brought me back to Volvo.” Kate’s decision to go electric was inspired by her move into a home with solar panels. “It just made sense,” she explained. “I hardly ever see a petrol station now because I charge at home and through the summer, that’s free energy.”
When asked about her experience with Volvo Cars Poole, Kate was quick to praise the team. “They’ve been absolutely brilliant,” she said. “From helping me learn more about the car to assisting with any queries, the service has been impeccable. Even when I’ve just driven in with a quick question, they’ve always been so helpful.” One memorable example of that customer care came when Kate experienced a puncture late one evening. “I used the emergency button in the car. I couldn’t see the damage in the dark, so I called for assistance. They took me to Volvo Cars Poole, and John, the General Sales Manager, was fantastic. He helped me with a courtesy car and made sure everything was sorted.”
As an early adopter of electric mobility, Kate acknowledges the learning curve but insists it’s been a rewarding transition. “You do have to change your mindset,” she said. “At first, I was overcharging it, but now I just plan journeys sensibly. The car even tells you where to stop and recharge, so it takes the stress out of long trips.”
When asked whether she’d recommend the Volvo EX30, Kate didn’t hesitate. “Definitely. It’s stylish, practical, and reliable. I’ve been able to fit everything from garden supplies to golf gear in the back, and it still looks immaculate inside. It’s a car that reflects my personality.”
As part of this exciting new partnership, Volvo Cars Poole customers can now enjoy exclusive benefits at Meyrick Park, including special offers on golf memberships and use of the health club and gym facilities. In return, Meyrick Park members will be able to unlock unique privileges with Volvo Cars Poole, from preferential rates when purchasing a Volvo, to dedicated offers on servicing and maintenance at the Poole workshop. It’s a partnership designed to add value, convenience, and enjoyment for both communities.
Looking ahead, the partnership between Volvo Cars Poole and Meyrick Park seems a natural fit. “Our members’ car park already has a lot of Volvos,” Kate noted. “And with electric charging points being installed soon, this partnership makes perfect sense. Both brands are about quality, reliability, and moving with the times; it’s a great match.”
