Meet the Team - Alan - Site Co-ordinator
If you’ve ever visited Volvo Cars Poole, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Alan in action. As the Site Co-ordinator, Alan is the one ensuring everything runs smoothly outside the showroom, from customer parking to vehicle logistics. “I’m always on the move, making sure there’s enough space for everyone and that the site looks presentable for customers.”
Alan joined Volvo Cars Poole in July 2025, bringing with him decades of experience managing people and operations across several industries. Before joining the team, he owned and managed multiple businesses in vending, catering, and hospitality. After taking some time to enjoy retirement, Alan decided he wasn’t ready to slow down just yet. “I just needed something to keep me active” he explains. “This role is perfect, it keeps me busy, and I get to talk to people all day.”
Customer interaction is a big part of what Alan enjoys most. “I’m a people person,” he says. “Sometimes it’s as simple as helping someone find where to park, but that can make all the difference to their experience.” When asked what skills are essential for his role, Alan doesn’t hesitate: “People skills, empathy, and patience.”
Alan describes the team environment at Volvo Cars Poole as friendly and supportive, particularly praising the collaboration between departments. “The sales team and the service team are great to work with. Everyone helps each other out. Having worked in many industries, Alan finds the approach at Volvo Cars Poole refreshingly different. “Things get done quickly, and people take responsibility for what they do. There’s a lot of teamwork here.”
And if Alan could take any Volvo home for a week? “Definitely the Volvo XC90,” he smiles. “I’ve always been used to executive cars, and I love the comfort and refinement of it. I’m not into all the gadgets, as long as it’s comfortable and drives well, that’s what matters to me.”
Outside of work, Alan is passionate about sports, especially football and golf. “I used to run a golf business after I retired,” he says. Much of his time now is also devoted to caring for family members responsibility he takes on with great dedication.
